Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I Ingots Part VIII - Unique Examples

Thanks to Chris from Old West Gold for what I believe to be an acquisition that is another one of a kind. On no other Mint Of The United States At San Francisco silver ingot can I find the use a fraction in the fineness. Photographing this ingot gave me the idea to post this along with other Type I unique examples from my collection this week.

The #1264 Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I oval hallmark, large font with curved stem nines is presented first. The use of 3/4 versus .75, along with the lack of "FINE" makes this ingot unique. I believe this series to be the oldest based on my research to date and with exception of one single ingot, the only series that contains variations in the fineness which now include .0, .50, .75 and this one 3/4.

Based on my research mentioned above and belief that the Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I oval hallmark, large font with curved stem nines is the first type and series produced; #85 is the lowest number I have seen which could POSSIBLY make it the oldest ingot in circulation.

The #1250 Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I oval hallmark, medium font with curved stem nines is the only ingot I have seen with the number rotated to vertical alignment on the obverse.

Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I oval hallmark with no number and no weight; I have only ever seen two such examples and both are in my collection. Just slightly more common but still extremely rare are the examples with weight stamped on the reverse.

Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I oval hallmark, small font with straight stem nines is the only such example I have ever seen. In all of my research to date there are no other ingots with small font and straight stem nines.

And finally Mint Of The United States At San Francisco Type I oval hallmark, small font with curved stem nines #1.
